FORT WAYNE, Ind., April 15, 2026 – Electric Works officials held a ribbon-cutting event Wednesday to celebrate the full opening of The Elex, a mixed-use, mixed-income residential development at the heart of the innovation campus.
Named after the association of women employed by General Electric, The Elex includes 296 apartments, with 89 affordable housing units. Future developments at The Elex also include commercial space, including a fitness and wellness center and a planned early childhood learning center. Partners in The Elex development include Ancora, Weigand Construction, Biggs Group, and MSquared.
“We are thrilled to fully open The Elex and introduce it to Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana,” said Kevan Biggs, President and Owner of Biggs Group, one of the development’s key partners. “This development raises the bar for what inclusive, community-centered apartment living in Fort Wayne can be. By combining luxurious design and high-quality amenities in the heart of the city, this amazing new residential community delivers real value and options to individuals and families across income levels.”
Key project leaders from The Elex were joined by elected officials, as well as community and economic development officials, at the ribbon-cutting event. The full opening of The Elex marks an important milestone in the second phase of a project designed to positively impact economic development and respond to critical community needs.
“The Elex marks a defining milestone in the evolution of Electric Works,” said Josh Parker, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Ancora, the lead developer for Electric Works. “Welcoming residents signals that this historic campus is no longer just a place to work or visit but that it is becoming a true neighborhood. By expanding attainable housing choices, this achievement reflects the dedication of our public and private partners and advances the ambitious vision for Electric Works.”
“This is the formula for revitalizing historic districts in a way that’s both inclusive and future-focused, bringing high-quality mixed-income housing, best-in-class design, and access to education, healthcare and retail,” said Alicia Glen, Founder and Managing Principal of MSquared, a women-owned real estate impact platform specializing in mixed-income, mixed-use projects. “MSquared is proud to support this impactful project alongside the team of public and private partners who brought this vision to life.”
“Transforming this historic site has been a monumental undertaking, and today marks another major step forward,” said Jonathan Leist, Director of Community Development for the City of Fort Wayne. “The addition of nearly 300 new housing units—including approximately one-fourth designated as affordable, age‑restricted homes—expands access to high‑quality, amenity-rich living in one of the most dynamic areas of our city. This type of mixed-income, high‑opportunity development is exactly what helps Fort Wayne grow while improving quality of life. On behalf of Mayor Sharon Tucker, the city is grateful to the developers for choosing to invest in Fort Wayne and for helping breathe new life into a site that had been dormant for too long.”
